3 Things Thursday: AHA! Moments

The best way to describe the last week of my life; an extended episode of Oprah. So many AHA! moments. I’m sitting here at the little desk in my hotel room {I’m a solo trip that I’ll write more about next week}, trying to write something witty & clever, but I’m in a zen place for once so no self-mocking this week.

One: I’m an Introvert
Last weekend I was having a mini breakdown about the chaos and clutter in my life, so I called my friend Taslim. While I was in the middle of my rant she said something “like most introverts you probably just need some quiet time.” Whoa – me an introvert? It almost felt like an accusation at first. I’m always the life of the party, the talkative one. Then I started reading a book called Quiet by  Susan Cain and it seems I might just be a psuedo extrovert – basically a sheep parading around in a tiger’s skin.

The more I’ve explored this idea of introversion the more I’ve realized Taslim was right in her observation; I can easily charm a crowd, but what I crave is deep on on one conversation or alone time – and it only took me 34 years to figure that out!

Two: Just Eat
Did you know that food actually tastes different when you eat it without a cell phone in your hand or on your table? Over the last two days I’ve eaten a Mexican eggs Benedict, a potato chip crusted halibut {so yummy!}, and the best London Fog I’ve ever had in my life, but there is no proof on Instagram. Does that mean it didn’t happen? While I highly doubt I’ll be breaking up with my cell phone anytime soon, it will no longer be my dinner date.

Two B: I think I conquered my fear of eating at restaurants alone!


Three: I Thrive in Organized Spaces
My entire life I have believed that I’m messy/disorganized because I’m creative, but I actually think I create clutter so I have an excuse not to work on my art. {I told you this week was deep}. As I’ve been working my way through my house cupboard by cupboard and simplifying, purging things I don’t need, and putting things back in an organized way, I feel like I can breathe easier. The other day I actually felt like sewing again because the house was clean.

    It takes an introvert to know one! Hope your soul is recharging nicely – it’s tough being an introvert who has messages for a world stage, but you are doing a great thing on this trip!

    Not to sound crazy, but this post was talking to my soul! I recently came to realization that I too am an introvert. I always thought because personality tests told me I was an extrovert, I was. Not so much! I crave more meaningful connections and discussions. Put me in a room with more than 5 people, and I tend to become an observer. And agreed with the just eat – in fact, don’t just eat, savor/enjoy/appreciate! Great post, Raj!

    Pretty deep post but it looks like you’re ending 2014 in a great way with bigger and more organized things in 2015 😉
