3 Things Thursday: Lovely Little Things

Can you believe it has been almost a year since we started 3 Things Thursday! My girls Nisha & Salma tell me this is week 42. I can’t really wrap my brain around that idea so let’s talk about a few lovely things instead.

In case you are new here; 3 Things Thursday is a weekly post where I share 3 things that are on my mind (or in my closet), and link up with Salma from The Write Balance and Nisha from Love Laugh Mirch. If you are a blogger and you want to join up, simply write your own list of 3 Things, grab a badge from below, and share a link to your post. It’s a great way to meet other bloggers!

celebrating maghicelebrating maghi

? Celebrating Maghi

Maghi is the first day of the year according to the Punjabi calendar, and is also the financial new year for farmers. Traditionally little girls would go door-to-door and collect “moh-mahi” (which is basically any edible treats) from the older ladies in the village. As always though, I put my own spin on it and invited some friends over for dinner. Zara and their two little girls painted pots and planted seeds, and then we ate lots of sweets. I figured that works for a Maghi celebration!

One of my favourite (and rarely publicized) Indian traditions is the idea of looking at little girls as Lakshmi, and the belief that they bring barkhat into your house. Both of these concepts sort of translate to an idea that little girls bring luck and prosperity wherever they go. It felt really good to have 3 little girls at our table yesterday planting seeds of prosperity. Somehow it made  me feel like it’s going to be a great year!

prabu foods paneer pakora

? Kid Friendly Paneer Pakoras

I recently had the chance to visit the Prabu Foods factory here in Surrey and was super impressed with how clean and organized the facility is, and I love how passionate the owner Amar is about creating truly traditional Indian foods. A fellow foodie is always a friend!

Amar sent me home with a stack of products to try, and so far the clear front runner is the paneer pakora. (Although the aloo tikki did fly off the plate at a recent Pink Chai team meeting). We served the paneer pakoras at our dinner last night and the kids just gobbled them up. In fact, I felt bad I didn’t have a second box! These have just the right amount of spice to make them tasty but tolerable for kids.

? New Bedding/Bedroom Makeover

If you follow me on Facebook, you might have noticed that I’ve been dropping hints about a bedroom makeover for a little while. Well the major reason things have been stuck is because I couldn’t decide on a starting point. A friend advised me to pick at least one textile or print I wanted to use in the room and work backwards, but I couldn’t find anything, but then…

indian inspired bedding

Isn’t she pretty? After weeks of trolling the internet trying to find a duvet cover with a bit of an Indian touch and a little bit of pink that Mr T would approve of – I found this beauty at Target. (Please don’t leave Canada Tarjey). I’m so in love with all the colours and prints, and I finally feel like I can make a move on the rest of the room. (You can see a sneak peak of one more part of the room here)

Those are my 3 Things this week and now it’s your turn to link up! I’d love to read about the three things on your mind this week. It’s really easy to join in the fun; just grab the 3 Things Thursday badge, write a blog post, then link back to either one or all of hostesses; Raj (me) at Pink Chai Living, Salma at The Write Balance, or Nisha at Love Laugh Mirch and link up below. It’s super easy and it’s a fun way to meet new people, get new readers to your blog and just share what’s happening in your world this week!

Oh boy…now I’m really craving paneer pakora! (And the alloo tikki looked awesome on instagram, too!) My parents always called me their Lakshmi and when my girls were born that’s how they were announced: “Lakshmi has arrived!” Thanks for sharing more of your traditions!
