Fall Favourite: Dress + Salwar

Anyone who knows me well knows two things about my dressing style – I’m actually a very lazy person masquerading as a fashion blogger, and whenever possible I choose loose and comfortable clothing. So you can imagine how excited I was when I landed on this new outfit idea this morning …. pairing a favourite summer dress with a salwar. How did I not know that this was a thing before?

OUTFIT DETAILS

DRESS: Old Navy
SALWAR: Seriously old, saved from a random ready-made suit I had once
JHUTTI: Amritsar
BANGLE: Chowki Dani Jaipur – click for > cutest story ever about this bangle

Salwars are basically the original ‘turkey pants’ (hello Friends reference ) There is no day that a salwar doesn’t fit and I don’t think they get enough credit for that.

With all the new styles of pants in stores now – work leggings, joggers, drop-crotch pants (I have no idea what the right name is for those), I think it’s perfectly fair for desi girls to bring the salwars out and start mixing and matching them with our western pieces. In fact, I’m already dreaming of an outfit for next week which is inspired by Kareena Kapoor ala Jab We Met.

Really nice- I have worn dresses with churidars but have never paired a dress with salwars. Maybe it is time to try doing that.
Indo-western fusion wear is a lifesaver for me- both in the US for Indian holidays and in India because I want to wear new clothes every day and can’t buy enough Indian outfits to do so.
I also wear kurtas tucked into skirts to work and kurtis with leggings and boots (like a dress).
And oh, I think I came across your blog searching for ways to incorporate Indian clothes into Western outfits!
