Recently we had the opportunity to catch up with Indian designers Parvesh Jai at Vancouver Fashion Week where they showed their collection titled; The Baroque Princess. The design duo, who have been named one of India’s top 25 ethical designers took a departure from the bright saturated colours generally associated with India, and took a walk on the morbid side. Inspired by 17th century princesses coming back from the afterlife, the collection had a dark undertone, and a gothic feel.
I was particularly impressed with the Kashmiri embroidery on the jackets in the collection. It was the perfect mix of fusion – embroidery that reminded me of my grandmother’s trousseau juxtaposed with a tailored jacket.

It was a real delight to see the collection up close and personal, and we hope to see more of Parvesh Jai’s work in the future. If you are interested in collaborating with the design duo on a custom piece, you can reach them via Facebook, they are happy to work on bespoke pieces – both western or Indian bridal.
