Social Media Vacation

social media vacationIt’s probably no surprise that I use social media A LOT in my life as a blogger, but what you may or may not know about me is that my day job is running a social media marketing company. Some days it feels like I’m on social media every waking moment of my day.

Don’t get me wrong, I love both of my job roles (in fact, some days it hardly feels as though my work qualifies as a job – it’s just too much fun), but I do feel overwhelmed by all the information coming at me. I’m always searching Facebook and Twitter for the most share-worthy content, and quite often I’m photographing moments in my life for Instagram before stopping to enjoy them myself.

Keeping this in mind, I’ve decided to take a little vacation from social media. It’s not a detox, because I’m not addicted – it’s more like taking a break from something so you have a chance to miss it. I miss being excited by what is new on my Instagram feeds, and feeling excited about catching up with old friends on Facebook.

During my “vacation” I won’t be posting here, or on any of my social feeds. In fact, I’ve already started deleting all the social apps on my phone, and I’m even going to try and stay off email (this one gives me the most anxiety I think). What I am going to do for the next 10 days is laze around in bed, read a bunch of books I’ve been storing by my bedside table, and go on some dates with myself. Long drawn out lunches, mindless wandering, and craft store window shopping – that is what this mama needs to fill up and start the new year refreshed.

So on that note, I wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and I will see you on (or around) January 4th!
