What I Wore: Date Night Dress

pink chai living, date night dressSo I was a bit hesitant about this dress, and this post. Since having my kids and hitting my almost mid-thirties (I’ll turn 35 in 5 months), I’ve become a bit reserved about how I dress. I’d say it’s a combination of becoming body-conscious after having kids, and this weird idea I have about how mom’s are supposed to dress.

Even though I don’t go the yoga pants route, I also tend to steer clear of form fitted clothes, clothes with cut-outs, or dresses with thigh-high slits; this dress has all three of those. You might not be surprised to hear that my husband convinced me to wear this dress, but the surprising thing is I don’t dislike these pics like I was sure I would. date night dress{Date Night Dress: Stiches, Shoes: Le Chateau}

My perception of this dress was that it is for a girl much younger, thinner, and taller than me, but the strange thing is; after putting it on I felt a little like that girl myself! While it’s not something that I would wear on a daily basis because um, in real life you can’t walk around in t-strap heels and thigh-high slits unless you are a Kardashion, it’s something I’ll turn to again for a night out or a walk on the beach. More importantly though, I think I’ll be a little nicer when I’m talking about my body now that I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone and tried this look on for size. date night dressSo I guess today’s lesson is; sometimes we all need to step out of our comfort zone and try something new, and at least once a year I should let my husband choose my outfit!

    You look absolutely gorgeous in that! I’m sure your husband spent the evening telling you that, too. Good for you, trying on a new look and giving yourself an honest answer. You are still young, and ‘mom’ clothes today aren’t the ‘mom’ clothes of the past. You can feel young and pretty and yes, sexy, even if you are Mom. The only difference between pre and post kids is that we don’t have the energy to do it everyday 🙂
