Family Photo Wall

Last week I put up some pictures. For the first time in years I put a nail in the wall and actually hung a photo (well actually a few photos). Every time I walk by this wall it makes me smile. I look at it when I’m making my morning cup of chai, it’s in my sight-line while I work at the kitchen table, and it’s the first thing I see when I come back home and open the front door.

If you haven’t done it yet, print out some of your favourite pictures and put them on the wall! In fact, you can even take it a step farther and have your favourite images put on canvas, like I did with two pictures from our family shoot last year. We chose 12×12 canvas wraps from London Drugs and they look amazing. Putting an image on a canvas wrap really makes it look special and, adds some interest to your photo wall.

I started by hanging an Ikea Ribba shelf in the centre of my photo wall area. This was set up to hide the ugly thermostat you see in the photo  above. I used drywall anchors to make sure the shelf was secure and could handle the weight of the largest frame. creating a photo wall

Then I used some painters tape and good old push pins to make sure that my canvas prints were hanging straight. Once I had the canvas prints up I added the family sign and the two little frames on the left.

Initially I was really stressed about putting up this mini photo wall. I’ve seen so many amazing photo walls on Pinterest with their perfectly matched frames and exact spacing – it made me feel like mine wouldn’t look good enough. Crazy right?

Anyway, I’m glad that I got over it and just put something on the wall. I also hummed and hawed for a few days about whether I should mix professional photos with old school print photos or not, but finally I decided to just choose whatever I love. how to hang a photo wall 4

{This photo is not professional by any means – but it’s my favourite photo of all time because it’s the first picture of all four us. It’s captures the day my little family was complete}

If you’ve been putting off hanging pictures because they aren’t professional, or your frames aren’t nice enough, or any other reason – trust me, just do it! You won’t regret it.

    This is lovely! I made a gallery wall up our stairs too and every time I walk past I smile just like you! I like how you used little ledges, this will make it super easy to switch photos around and keep your display fresh. 🙂
