I Cut My Hair Off

If you’ve been following the Pink Chai blog for a while, you may already know that I’m kind of obsessed with long hair. I have a specific routine that I use to straighten my hair once a week, a store bought oil I love, and also a homemade amla oil recipe I’m obsessed with. {Heck, I even shared my top tips for growing your hair a few weeks ago!}

Well yesterday I was working my way through my morning pages, and all of a sudden the idea popped into my head that I should cut my hair. I promptly messaged my friend Shweta who is usually my voice of reason when I get crazy impulsive ideas like this and she said – you should do it. Then I asked my friend Navkiran if she could give me a cut, and she happily agreed. Two friends giving me the green light on a big haircut…really?

The more I thought about it, the more I felt like I’ve been using my hair as a security blanket for a long time, so I figured it was time for a change. After talking myself into it, I was so afraid I would chicken out that I didn’t even wait for Navkiran to come home from work, and headed to the salon instantly! I was so nervous I can’t believe I went through with it, but …..

It might seem strange, but I woke up a little sad about my hair today. It’s like a part of my identity is gone. Weird how we can get so attached to something like hair. Anyway, I’m feeling better now, and ready to embrace my new look! I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to recreate this styled look at home, but I’m excited about trying to embrace my naturally wavy hair instead of fighting it with a blow dryer and straightener.

In case anyone is interested – I had my hair cut by a wonderful stylist named Chinda from Chatters Salon in Guildford Town Centre & loved her!

    Hi there Raj.

    Okay, so I’m your secret blog follower. I’ve never commented on anything, I’ve just been enjoying it all. I read your 3 things Thursday yesterday and it’s making me write this comment.
    I understand that you have hair cut remorse, I have had it many times in my life it’s made me grow my own hair ridiculously long. But when I look at you in that picture I admire you. It took guts and to be honest I think this change is what you needed. You look fantastic. It gives your face more shape, it’s fuller, it’s exciting and fresh and looks sexy. You also look younger and it brightens up your eyes. I’m a long hair lover, but I simply believe that certain styles are better for some, and this girl. … This is an awesome one for you. Enjoy it. There’s so much you can do with it. Putting that length up is also fun and elegant. Leave the remorse and 2014 hardships behind with the hair on that floor and be bright as you always are.

      Thank you so much Gynn, this comment means so much to me. Not just the kind words about the hair {although those are pretty awesome}, but the whole thing. Thanks for taking the time to comment, it made my week!
