Happy 2nd Birthday Pink Chai Style!

Advance apologies, today’s post is a little bit random and run on, there was just so much I wanted to say!

It’s Pink Chai Style’s 2nd birthday today; no one is more surprised than me that I’m still blogging 24 months later. This blog started out as something to do when my life was going through a bit of a dip and I was completely uninspired, and has grown into the only thing I want to do. Even when it becomes hard to keep up with and I say that I’m going to quit (mostly for dramatic effect), I know in my heart that it’s just not an option any more.

{My first outfit post ever!}

Two days before Christmas the blog was hacked and went down for a few days, every time we thought it was taken care of, it would reappear. This went on for most of January, and the advice I kept getting was to back up all my files and re-install my site (which was the scariest thing ever to me). Last week I finally bit the bullet and decided that’s what should be done, only; I accidentally deleted the entire site in the process. There are really no words to explain the horror I felt when it occurred to me that all 24 months of work that I poured into Pink Chai Style was gone. There was lots of sobbing; violent, uncontrollable sobbing (poor Mr. T). Until that moment I hadn’t really thought about how much Pink Chai Style meant to me. Thankfully, one awesome lady over at Netfirms worked with me for nearly 4 hours over 2 days and got things up and running, (and I learned my lesson about properly backing up my work.)

Since my last blog anniversary, so many amazing things have happened, I don’t even know where to begin. I think the first time I really thought that my blog could be more than a hobby was when I attended BlogWest in March. There I met bloggers that blog to make a living, pursue a passion, promote a business, or just for fun – it was amazing to learn from so many different perspectives. I left BlogWest with the seed in my mind that I want to do more freelance writing (thank you Sarah Deveau for the amazing workshop), and write I did! This year, my writing has been featured in: Masalamommas Online Magazine, The Huffington Post, All Things Chic, Indian Fashion Bloggers community, and most recently; I’ve become the Style Editor for a print publication called Desi Ink Magazine.

Mid-way through the year I also came to the realization that I want to go back to school and study Fashion Design. I really want to learn how to draft patterns and construct beautiful garments. In my pursuit of this new dream I found myself on the bleachers at Fashion Week in Toronto. Seriously, how does a suburban mom of two end up hanging out at fancy Fashion Week after-party’s; through her beloved blog of course!  I learned so much from that experience, and even got to meet Jeanne Beaker the lady who first introduced me to the runways of Europe years ago. Unfortunately, I didn’t get accepted into the part time fashion program I applied for and was sort of crushed, but I think it was a blessing in disguise; it would have been crazy with the schedule my kids have to try and go to night school right now. The dream isn’t dead though, it’s just looking for a new way of manifesting. I finally read Julie & Julia a few weeks ago and was thinking, maybe I need a sewing project….who knows, I’ll keep you posted on that!

Other than work opportunities, Pink Chai Style has also brought me some of the most amazing relationships and friendships literally around the world. One of the best moments for me this year was finally meeting my Masalamomma girls in real life. After missing my chance to stroll NYC with them in May because Mr. T was having eye surgery, we finally got to hug it out in Toronto at the She’s Connected conference. There’s always that moment when you are going to meet someone IRL and you are a little scared that you might not click (especially when they are letting you stay at their house for a week!) I can say that never happened, from the moment that Shweta hopped out of the cab with a big smile on her face, it was love:) There is so much more gushing I’d like to do about all my girls but I’ll spare you….just suffice to say; Nisha, Anjum, Salima, Shweta, Sheba this year wouldn’t have been nearly as spectacular without all of you:) A special mention to V – my heart, even though we haven’t met yet, I know we are going to be BFF’s forever…cause you are the chai to my biscuits!

{My girls}

Before I close out this extremely long post there are a few people I want to say thank you to. I won’t go into detail, but suffice to say that each of them has made a mark on my heart this year  – Dale, Jeanne, Art, Sheri, Felicia, Tanvi, Lorie, Lisa, Neesha – thank you:) And, last but definitely not least are all my readers. It is amazing how many people have been with me for over a year now, and every time I get a comment it still makes my heart sing a little.

Wow – this may just be a word count record for me. So now I’m off to figure out what I’m going to do in my third year of blogging. You may have noticed that I’ve been adding some new features, trying out things, please let me know if you like them or not! Although fashion will always be my first love, this year I’m going to try to introduce you to a few other areas of my life where my personal style takes centre stage. Wishing everyone a very Happy Valentine’s Day – hugs:)

PS: I haven’t forgotten to mention my wonderful husband and kids, I just wanted to save you all another 700 word gush fest – maybe next time?

    Congratulations on 2 years…it is so time consuming at times..but amazing how attached we become to these little spots on the blogosphere. I am so sorry to hear you went through all of that regarding being hacked/losing all your work. I don’t know what I would do..and now I am wondering if I have backed up my work? I will have to ask my techie husband about that.

    Happy 2 year birthday! C
