Love is in the air! Not only because the mushiest and most heart filled day is around the corner, but because I watched the Royal Winnipeg Ballet perform Romeo & Juliet last week, and I still have a love hangover.
It’s no secret that I’m a literature geek and love the work of Shakespeare, so getting a chance to watch it in ballet form was just amazing. I was a total novice (I’ve never seen a ballet before), but I’ve always wanted to – somehow I just knew I would love it. Everything about it was amazing; the set, music, costumes, Juliet and Romeo …. I’m still crushing on Romeo. I thought there might be some boring moments in a show that was 2 hours and 4 minutes, but it had me in it’s grip the whole time. I might have been a ballet novice before, but now I’m addicted – it won’t be my last show!
So that lovely “hungover” feeling inspired me to create this floral crown and take romantic photos in the park today. All the girls that played “village belles” in the ballet wore beautiful floral crowns. Granted my look is a little more 70’s boho than ballerina, but you get the point. I thought the floral crown would just be a prop for today … but I might wear it sometimes, you know, just because!
I didn’t really have a specific method for the crown. I started with some fake flowers and just bent the branches into a circle and then used some gold metal wire to attach extra flowers. There are so many great tutorials on the web for this project if you need more details. Be careful though – that floral wire is sharp!
Before closing today I just have to say …. did anyone notice that I curled my hair? It’s certainly not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction I think!
