So lately I haven’t really felt like getting dressed in the morning. It started with puttering around the house in my pj’s until noon sometimes – which felt like a treat, almost a privilege afforded to the self employed. Then I started wearing my only pair of yoga pants around the house, and most recently I had a staff meeting at my kitchen table with greasy roots and a baggy sweatshirt.
Now I know that beauty isn’t just about what’s on the outside, but looking pulled together makes me feel better about myself and in turn makes me more productive. I’ve shared many times before that when I don’t get dressed for the day it’s too easy for me to slack off. So, I’ve decided to give myself a challenge in October – get dressed. Everyday for 31 days I’m going to wake up, get cleaned up, and choose a real outfit; just like the good old outfit blogger days!
One of the major roadblocks I’ve been feeling towards getting dressed everyday is my current wardrobe situation. Some things just don’t fit anymore (thyroid meds are wreaking havoc on my waistline and my size is constantly changing), and other things aren’t “my style” anymore. Honestly I feel a bit guilty about not liking so much of my wardrobe, they are nice clothes, they just don’t fit my lifestyle anymore. These days I’m leaning toward much more relaxed pieces than I used to wear before, and I’m feeling a really fusion vibe.
While I’m not sure that a full wardrobe overhaul is needed, I think it might be time to thin out my choices a little. This week I’m going to spend some time every evening pulling out pieces that aren’t seasonally appropriate anymore, or things that just don’t appeal to me and boxing them up. Maybe if all I have left are things I like it will be easier to choose an outfit in the morning. As a bonus, my hope is by the end of the month I’ll have a better idea of what’s missing from my wardrobe and I can take my time looking for them.
I thought about setting some crazy goal like posting a daily pic but I don’t want to apply a tonne of pressure on myself and lose sight of the goal – enjoy getting dressed up again. Instead I’ll share a weekly wrap up in a What I Wore Wednesday post starting on Oct 8, and share some pics on Instagram using the tag #pinkchaichallenge.
