Turn Eye Shadow into Nail Polish {Inspired by India}

turn eye shadow into nail polishLast summer I went through a brief obsession with metallic eye shadow. It lasted about three weeks, yet somehow I ended up with a rather large collection. Now that I’m back to eyeliner, mascara, and the occasional swipe of nude toned shadow, I hit up google to figure out what else I can do with all that rejected shadow. There are quite a few tutorials online that suggest buying a cheap top coat and adding the shadow directly into it. I decided against that because, cheap nail polish almost always chips off  and is full of gross chemicals. After a bit of research, I discovered a place not far from where I live called Voyageur Soap and Candle Company. They carry all sorts of make-up base products including a nail polish base that is free from formaldehyde and other toxins. The other benefit of a nail polish base is that it ensures that the shadow stays mixed throughout the nail polish and doesn’t sink to the bottom, like it would when added to a bottle of top coat.

DIY: Turn Eye Shadow Into Nail Polish

It’s incredibly easy to make; all you need is a nail polish base, empty nail polish bottles (I also got those at Voyageur), and your eye shadows. The shadows I used were already in pigment form, but you could also break up old shadows and add them to the base.turn eye shadow into nail polish, pink chaiStart by pouring some nail polish base into an old container. Make sure you measure how much liquid fits in the container you’ll be pouring your finished product into. I was pleasantly surprised that I pulled this off.20151001-DSC_0232I actually made two sets of polish; one for me, and one for a girlfriend who’s birthday is coming up. I had planned to print out a special label for each bottle, but I couldn’t find a label size that fit, so I ended up hand writing the labels instead. Each colour was connected to a memory or feeling a city in India evokes for me. turn eye shadow into nail polish
